73-87 Granny tranny ??
1982 3 speed w added low gear in a 1/2 ton , I am trying to remove this trans and am having trouble figuring out how to remove the shifter. I see two roll pins at 3 and 9 o'clock, but cannot figure out how to pull them as they do not go through. The whole truck project got delayed due to an emergency angioplasti, (had a couple chest pain incidents so I went in.) I should be in shape in a couple days to get back to it. Pulling the motor/trans is the is the first step now. It is ready to pull except that shifter and I do not have the means to drop it out the bottom.

Re: 73-87 Granny tranny ??
There is a stamped steel "cup" that captures the base of the shifter; it has slots that engage those roll pins. You should be able to grab the top of that cup with a pair of channellocks; push down while rotating counterclockwise and it should come loose. It is all spring loaded so once you clear the pins it should pop up.
Kinda like opening a bottle of aspirin (...only bigger...). K
