A buddy of mine has a mid 80's crew cab dually that has that emblem on the bottom of the rear roof pillar, right behind the back doors on each side. I never gave it a whole lot of thought, but I'd guess it's to signify the truck is a "Camper Special".

Heavier duty suspension, lower gear ratios, and badges mostly. Maybe sway bars? My old '79 CS was a 3/4 ton but was still rated at 8200GVW, as much as some 1 tons. It had the 14 bolt FF axle and some sort of extra camper mounts sticking out from the bedsides. (I never had a camper on it) Also had the big huge tripod mirrors that mount half way down the door...

Edit: Also was a big block with a heavy towing package, but I don't know if that was part of the camper special option or just extra.

I had an 83 c20 CS for a while and the only thing that was interesting about it was the 1 ton spring packs. I don't remember the GVWR but it was a 305/465/14BSF with 3.73s and it had those same emblems. I actually still have the emblems, cause that truck didn't deserve it.

ive seen about 4 of those emblems the other day at the junk yard. ive seen a gmc long bed that had the emblem and was a 3+3, sadly the truck was really messed up. so sad you dont see those here in bakersfield. i was thinking of taking those emblems off and keeping them as souvenirs.

Besides some of the other components that other people have mentioned, I think that it may have also included a wiring harness that could be used for a slide in camper, and on some trucks I've seen some kind of a shock absorber type thing that went between the bed and the cab to minimize movement between them (I guess). The trucks I've seen them on were older ones, my buddy's mid 80's model doesn't have it.

It seems like I saw some factory sales literature on some website that went into a little greater detail on what a Camper Special package consisted of.
