Re: Door jammed shut on Blazer
i guess anything could be saved... but that thing looks pretty rough.
idk about the door besides popping the door lock out on the outside and stick your finger in there to find the lever...

Re: Door jammed shut on Blazer
You may be able to get the door panel off and get it unlocked from there.

Those doors aren't worth saving. Make a hole however you need to and start looking at the junkyards for new doors. The "cash for clunkers" program put a lot of good cheap suburban doors in the yards! Last edited by Number21; 09-07-2009 at 07:08 AM. |

Re: Door jammed shut on Blazer
Had that problem on my little brothers 86 Blazer.
A piece of the door latch inside the door broke off and the latch was stuck in the locked position so it wouldn't open from the inside or outside. We were able to pull the seat and get the door panel off without damaging anything so we could get to the connection point on the door latch & unlock the door so it would open. Changed the latch out with a good used one and everything was fine. |

Re: Door jammed shut on Blazer
If you havent gotten it open by now I suggest pulling the door pannel off and manualy unlocking it you arent going to hurt those rotted doors.
I think that Blazer is super salvageable And will be a really cool truck when its done. Just start hitting your local pick and pull for body pannels! Once the front clip and doors are replaced with rust free pannels half your battle will be over. BTW save the old pannels to practice welding on in preperation for the bedsides/ rockers youll have to weld on.

Re: Door jammed shut on Blazer
I have also pulled the door panel (didn't have to remove the seat) and reached inside and opened one.

Re: Door jammed shut on Blazer
If you are missing the keys to the door locks and dont care about them grab onto the exposed key lock from the out side of the car with some vise grips and turn counter clockwise and it will force unlock it if all else fails.

Re: Door jammed shut on Blazer
Actually a small center punch and the light wack of a hammer in one of the lower corners works best to bust the window. Banging safety glass with a BFH as hard as you can isn't going to break it, trust me.

Re: Door jammed shut on Blazer
If you really want to break the side glass roll the window down half way and hit the top edge with a hammer. It will explode.
You don't need to break the glass to get the door open but it would be fun except for picking up the ten thousand tiny little pieces of glass out of the interior. A shop vac works pretty good for that though. Working at a body shop growing up I had to do plenty of that glass clean up and have broken my fare share of safety glass on accident. |

Re: Door jammed shut on Blazer
thanks for the advice guys.
haha i dont think ill be braking any glass ill just pull the panel from the inside. and see what i can do from there. yeah it does need attion this is how it has always looked though well since i can remember. my dad did a job and the guy never paid him. So afther a long time my dad still not getting paid went and told the guy he owed him somethin. and my dad had his eye on this blazer. we dont even have a title for it. but its just a new wood runner. i could fix it up but it would be alot of work. needs a tub more than just patch panels. last spring i deceided i wanted to get it going again after it sat for 6-7 years and i pulled the old tired 350 out and put this one we had lying around. it was the first work on a truck i ever did.

Are you sure you can't unbolt the striker through the hole in the quarter panel?!?

make a fist and pound on the door handle two or three times and it should open, happens to my truck all of the time.

Re: Door jammed shut on Blazer
Wondering if you have figured out how to get the door open yet? I found this website via Google, since I just had the same thing happen on my pickup.
I had the good fortune of having a spare door in the garage, so I could see how the mechanism is SUPPSOED to work, which helped some. I was finally able to get it open once I got the interior door panel off. I would suggest that as a beginning step, if you are still fighting this. In my case, the bracket that is anchored on the jamb of the door, which is also connected to the lock cylinder, was bound up and wouldn't swivel the way it was supposed to. A slim-jim couldn't apply enough force to make it go, either. I was finally able to get it to move when I gave it a little shot from a hammer. Used a long-handles gasket scraper, put the end on the bracket and tapped the handle with the hammer and it moved down like it had to. After a LOT of WD40, it now operates better than it ever had since I've had the truck. If I can give you a better description, or even send a picture of what I had to hit to make it work, let me know. Good luck! I'm planning on pulling my other door panel off and lubricating the linkages in there, after seeing how nicely this one operates now. Can hardly explain the difference. |

Re: Door jammed shut on Blazer
i forgot about this post.
i finally got the door open after taking the panel off and seeing really nothing that would help i just drenched it all in oil. the next weekend i went up. didnt even try to open it figuring it was still jammed shut. drove around in the thing having a lot of fun all weekend. when we were packing up and about to leave my dad pulled up on the lock and it unlocked. hah couldnt believe it. and the door opened right up i dont know why it just decided to unlock.

Re: Door jammed shut on Blazer
Glad you got it open. At least you didn't have to damage anything to get it open.
On my wife's old car I had the same problem but couldn't get the door panel off with the seat in place and the seat mount bolts could only be accessed with the door open. Ended up having to cut the door panel apart and cut a section of the interior door structure apart to access the latch. |
