Need some advice help

I have a nice 1972 GMC Jimmy but am less than thrilled with the drive train. I would like to swap a newer drive line in for the FI and overdrive. The transfer case does throw a wrench in the works. I have 2 brand new drive shafts and the NP205 is bulletproof.

I believe the easiest is a TBI/700/241 With that swap can the TC shifter stay in the same location?

Speedo cable?

Any other problems I should be aware of?

The next consideration is a Vortec/4160/243

One of the problems is the drivers side drop TC

What can I do to accommodate the TC drop?

I like the electric pushbutton 243 so I could just plug the TC hole in the hump?

I am also open to the 5.3/6.0 swaps but know less about them.

If I can't find the correct combination I am going to go 2WD (maybe) with just an engine transmission swap.

I would really appreciate all help, suggestions, and if any of you know any deals out there!! I want to do this over the winter so it is drivable for next spring/summer.

Thanks in advance I know you guys have all the answers!!

Mark

Check out Street and Performance, in Mena, AR. They have done these swaps and have the harnesses that might be needed. They did have a buildup on their home page where they put an LS engine into a '68-72 truck body.

Re: Need some advice help

You can find alot more low milage engines if you go 5.3/6.0. TBI engines mostly have flat tappet cams(EPA regulations have forced oil companies to cut alot of the zinc, boron and other additives out of the oil) vortecs have intake and injector issuses. im not any help on the 4WD part. If you need help with wiring let me know.
