How many miles on 67-72 rear diff before a rebuilt?
What is an average life span of 67-72 c10 rear diffs before a rebuilt? I took mine apart again and everything looks good, 96000 miles. I ordered strange axles and will replaced axle bearing this time around . Carrier was out 4000 miles ago for a gear change. All the bearing looked good so I reused them.

there's no telling how many got repaired "back in the day" but the ones that still work today and haven't sat around unused for 20 years are generally still good.

They can last pretty much forever as long as the lube is good. This is one part preventive maintenance makes all the difference in the world on.

Re: How many miles on 67-72 rear diff before a rebuilt?
I've only had 3/4 and 1 tons, but those typically last forever... I know of one that has 400,000+ miles on it and doesn't so much as whine. And this thing gets LOADED like a Las Vegas prostitute on a regular basis... Oh, and the diff fluid hasn't been checked or changed since I sold this guy the truck about 17 years ago!!
