Cool Paint Theme help?

Okay so I'm painting the frame of my 1971 C10 with KBS gloss black. The paint code for it says 514 light red and it has a white cab top... So if I have chrome valve covers, air filter, timing covers, blah blah blah; what should I paint my inner fenders, firewall etc? Also what color should I paint the block? Was it chevy orange stock? would the firewall have been 514 light red stock? And can you get 514 light red engine enamel? If so then where?

Finally will 1500 degree aluminum color VHT header paint work on my manifolds?

What should I do with my exhaust manifold (paint wise)?

Thanks in advance guys! Build thread soon to come

Re: Paint Theme help?

I personally like the stock scheme of body (514) colored firewall and black inner fenders/rad support. You could paint the inners gloss black to match the frame and ad some brightness. Stock engine color was orange as far as I know, and it is what I would do, but hey its your truck. If you are worried about the red body clashing with the orange black, paint the firewall black for some separation. Paint supply shops can custom mix spray bombs in any color you want, so I don't see why they couldn't mix up your red in an engine paint. Anyone know what makes "engine enamel" different from a regular spray bomb? Something added?

Re: Paint Theme help?

haha sorry, I like the idea of gloss black inner fenders and firewall. Yea you caught me... I though it would clash; the chevy orange on the light red.

So what do yall think about the manifolds and exhaust manifold? I was thinking aluminum color 1500 degree paint. Would it just peel right off or would it stay pretty well and not fade?

Where do you get blue air filters elements and blue wires? not looms... just the neon blue looking wires. I really like that look but other suggestions are deff accepted.

Re: Paint Theme help?

For my stock manifolds I used this stuff....suppose to be awesome and very long lasting.....You can also touch up real easy as needed....goes on with a foam brush, so you do not see any brush marks....A bit spendy....but it has a great reputation for lasting!!

Re: Paint Theme help?

Awesome; I like the simple application. Would the orange 500 degree work on my exhaust manifold (under my carb? I think I'm calling it the right thing) Or would I need to use the recommended high heat paint?

How do I go about getting the surface rust off my manifolds? Just sandblast em? Hand sand with 320? What do you suggest?

I'd bead blast them...or take a wire wheel to em....I used regular Chevy Orange Krylon engine paint for my entire block...

Here is a pic...showing the engine & manifolds...

Re: Paint Theme help?

Sounds like the exact paint scheme as my truck. 514 Red leans towards orange anyway so I don't think the orange engine would clash at all. I'd stick with the stock red firewall and black inner fenders. You know I'm gonna want to see some pics once you get it painted. It's going to be a long time til I get mine painted and I want something to look forward to!

I already told you what I used on my manifolds....Eastwood High Temp Coating...

Then I used Eastwood "Spray Gray"....for all my cast parts.....and Eastwood "Detail Gray' on the parts that I wanted to stand out a bit....They also have "Alumablast"...which is awesome for aluminum parts....

Here's my trans & transfer case when I painted it:
