Re: tunnel ram intake question-help-
i ran one on a '69 Camaro more than 25 years ago. That won't help you a bit about hood clearence though....I ran a points type distributor though, HEI was fairly new back then. LOL

Re: tunnel ram intake question-help-
Ah yes.......should I put a tunnel ram on my 67-72 with a BBC..........
Can I get a "Hell Yes!" You and I have a couple of different issues here and I'll cover them both. I'll post a bunch of pics but explain them here. Assuming that our motors are sitting in the same place (I used factory '68 BBC mounts), that tunnel ram is going to put the carbs REAL close to the firewall/cowl. Where we have some differences is that I'm running mine sideways and you are running yours end to end. I only have the main body to worry about but you also have the thinkness of the fuel bowl too so that should make it even closer! Keep in mind that we are running the exact same intake. Where you have a positive over me is that I'm running the Hilborn scoop and you have the velocity stacks. What you are going to find that sucks is that the carbs run right into the back bracing for the hood. The other thing that really sucks is that these hoods move FORWARD then UP when you open the hood so that brace HAS to be cut which weakens the hood. If you think you are going to cut a square hole in the hood and be done......you are sorely mistaken. I don't want to scare you away but there is a bunch of work to make it right. You will have to cut the brace and then re-enforce it. I'm done for the winter but I have to go back next spring and really dial in the opening. I actually am running 1/2 in spacers so I can position the hood in between the carb and scoop which allows me to open it a little in the event of fire or minor tuning. Anything else and the scoop has to come off. Realize that the pics with the hood off makes it look like there is a bunch of room but I can assure you that all of the room is eaten up by the rear brace of the hood. You can sure tell when the hood is on just how far back the motor sits. I was blown away. I thought the scoop would be quit a bit farther forward. There is maybe an inch of sheet metal in the back. Oh well....I think she looks pretty darn good and so will yours! Just look at the pics and let me know if there are any other questions you have. I can't get any new pics because she is all tucked away for the winter. Hope this helps P.S.....For those of you "pros" really looking things over, the rubber fuel lines are going bye-bye. That was just to get it going this year. I'm doing a complete custom routed steel line job on it next year and it's going to look VERY sanitary. lol |

Re: tunnel ram intake question-help-
thanks prostreetc10 im stoked that its going to to actually stick some of the carbs through the hood, as i figured just the stacks would show. i definately understand the firewall clearance issue as that is where i figured i would find most of my problems. the hood issue sounds rough but i guess il find out when i start cutting how bad it really is. thanks for everyones input i cant wait to get this done

Hey....you're kinda new around here. I'd love to see some pics of your truck and that one piece tilt front end. I've kicked that concept around the garage a couple of times. Post 'em up please!!!! Also curious how those 660's are working. They were never really intented for the street. No power valve and 1:1 linkage. Do you have them modified or are they stock? Thanks! |

Re: tunnel ram intake question-help-
look up sneakysnake, he has a great front tilt job on his truck.
fwiw, you cannot run a typical large cap hei but they make small cap systems, gm used a stock small cap on the tbi motors. you can also convert your points dist to a hei pickup for $65. |
