engine question about my 86 c10

why is it that i cannot find a crate engine listed for my 1986 c10 305 carbureted engine? all i can find listed is up to an 85 and then from 87 on up, everywhere i have checked bypasses the 86 model year. my stock engine has just about had it and i was trying to figure out which way to go. thanks for all of your help.

any reason you want a crate engine? why not have a local rebuilder rebuild a 350 and replace the 305.

Re: engine question about my 86 c10

I would go with this one

https://store.gmperformanceparts.com...-12499529--%3E

it's the "replace all" engine from GM.

There is also a 260h.p. version in the GM performance parts catalog. It has a roller cam, and replaces 70-85 engines. The part# for that engine is 10067353.

Re: engine question about my 86 c10

The reason you are having trouble with a direct application is the '86 was the first year of the 1 piece rear main and the last year the intake bolts were all at the same angle. The The 2 piece rear main seal used through '85 uses a different oil pan and flex plate then the 1 piece. The '87 up will either need an intake for the '87 and newer heads or sloting of the center two bolt holes on each side of an old style intake. Any small block will work, you just need to have the correct parts.
