What are best plugs, stock 305 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I know my Honda's like NGK or Denso plugs, and my Jeeps like Autolite. What are the best plugs to use in a GM 305? What did they come with from the factory? Did a search, didn't come up with anything. Truck in question is a stock 305, 1983.

the came with ac delco. when i do a tune up on my 85 thats what i am going to use, and i used ac delcos on my 98.

a good plug to run on an older 305 or 350 in these trucks in my past experience is ac delco r45ts they are just a little hotter of plug than factory and seem to work really well.

I'm using Accells and like them. I used Bosch last time and wasn't impressed, and before them it had the Delcos, but they where about 50,000 miles old.

Don't go for platinum or high-dollar anything. I think you need real high combustion chamber temps or pressures, like LT1's or competition engines, to benefit from exotic metals.

Yes, AC Delco is good, so's Accel, Champion, etc.

I use Autolite 26's because I still get them for $1.39 each at NAPA.

I tried some Splitfires when they were on sale because I liked the old "V" plugs, they were good when you were not quite in your correct heat range and my truck (points dropped into the '76 engine) fit that description--what is being sold as Splitfires now, are not V-plugs, but really cheap copper plugs that do not seem to build enough heat to keep from carbon fouling.

I run AC Rapidfires in my 83 305, truck runs the best with'em, stock are the AC Delco R45TS's, also run a HyperTech Super coil

the original plugs for small block trucks of this era are r43ts. The ac delco r45ts are a little hotter and help with the fouling probs in older engines.

Had good luck so far with NGK plugs, be it stock replacements or the non resistor racing plugs I use now.

I use ac plugs in my stuff. The reason some of the other brands, ie Champion, don't always work as well is they make plugs for everything. So they have one plug that will will fit into a tolerance for many applications, but is not optimized for any one specific application. Its all about making money. Fewer part numbers = less overhead = more profit.
