Re: Carpet, insulation or ?

Typically both are used. Sound deadener for noise suppression and then a jute or foam sub layer for cushiness. There's nothing wrong about laying the carpet directly over the sound deadener though.

Re: Carpet, insulation or ?

My plan is to spray my whole cab interior with Lizardskin sound deadner and heat insulation, plus the underside of the cab floor....THEN put Dynmat all over it and then carpet. I want it as cool and quiet as possible. But you gotta remember my truck is a '46 so its probably a lot noisier than even the 50's trucks to begin with. It'll never be a Lexus no matter what I do to it - and I wouldn't want it to be anyway. Just able to hold a conversation or listen to the stereo.

I'm going this route, plus spraying the bottom of the cab with an undercoating.

Agreed... The more the merrier. Regardless of what you start with, I highly recommend a good standard carpet pad as well. It's pretty hard without it.

You said you have a '46?? Let's see some pics! There's a guy up the road from me with a '46 ton and a half dump truck. Mostly original, in marginal condition, but little to no rust. The dump mechanism works great. Awesome truck!

Re: Carpet, insulation or ?

Thanks for asking about my '46. Not to hijack BUT

I bought this truck in mid August and sent it to be rewired almost immediately. I bought a huge box of "stuff" - mirrors, weatherstripping, taillights etc, etc. from Jim Carter's truck parts and only now am gettign to start installign it all. I moved battery under seat with master, removable cutoff key, put in new gauges and so forth.

The truck came with an excellent running (if pretty dirty) 350/350 with Jag rear, power disc's all around and power steering. updated to 5 on 4-3/4 Chevy steelies with beauty rings and car '52 hubcaps. Probably will get an alternate set of old school cast Torque Thrusts for it if I ever come across a deal.

My plan (theoretically)?:
Safety items 1st - electrical (done), brakes, steering.
Reliability 2nd - all fulids, filters, hoses to be swapped.
Completeness 3rd - all weatherstripping, locate/buy/rebuild the windshield regulator (done), cowl vent actuator, rear bumper (currently a '47)
Cosmetics 4th - interior, paint, chrome, engine detailing. etc.

I know I won't be totally disciplined about this, but its a goal, a plan.
I have only these few photos on the pc I'm on nowe. I'll add a few later.
Comments/advice appreciated, Dan
