Re: Smoking taillights - Write Up
Where else would I be able to find that Niteshade stuff? I don't have O'Reilly's near me and I tried Lowe's, Home Depot, and Advanced Auto Parts.

Re: Smoking taillights - Write Up
I finally got around to tinting my turn signals. I think they turned out pretty good. The first day, I hadn't painted they screws yet and they stuck out like a sore thumb but now they blend in pretty good.

To the op, what part number are the led bulbs for the reverse lights and where did you get them? Both of mine are burnt out and some visibility would be nice.. Thanks

Re: Smoking taillights - Write Up
I did that to my Camaro tail lights and the light output was reduced too much for me. I was afraid of getting rear ended and switched back to stock. Looks cool, but not very safe, IMO.

Re: Smoking taillights - Write Up
I did nightshades to a car i had a few years ago. It held up good for about a year to year and a half and then it started melting and chipping off. This stuff also works good on chrome if you want it to appear to be black chrome.
Another way to do this is have a some clear mixed up with a couple of drops on black paint in it. You will have to do some trial and error because i dont know the exact recipe. This is suppose to be a much more durable way to do this. To me the clear method is the way to go. Much higher gloss. Seems to stand up better at least from my friends experience. |

It looks cool, but for what I have in my truck $$$$, I want the brightest taillights I can get! Everybody has a preference.

Longhorn Man- every time I see your sub I think of that Dolly Parton song "Coat of Many Colors" but in a manly way. Is it possible to sand the lenses smooth before painting?

Re: Smoking taillights - Write Up
I have been doing some reading up on this subject. I think you will find in most states that this is going to be illegal. I think it is Calif. that you must be able to see them from 1000 feet. I also think that most cops won't bother with it, unless they are just wanting to check you out.
I also found out that if they are tinted/smoked and someone rear ends you it's not going to be their fault if they can't see your taillights. |

Re: Smoking taillights - Write Up

also someone said it looks better with the reverse lenses left clear on a dark vehicle... any pics of such?

Re: Smoking taillights - Write Up
Anybody ever tint their side markers? I had an extra one so I tried it, and it doesn't look too bad. I would have to tint my taillights if I were to run them though.

Re: Smoking taillights - Write Up
I tried smoking my taillights once. I couldn't keep them lit.
I did this about 20 years ago to a Camaro that we had. I used automotive clear, and mixed in black paint. It worked great and didn't defuse the light too bad.

Re: Smoking taillights - Write Up
They look good, but When I step on may brakes or give a signal I want the other guy to see it or me. Besides If they have been altered and your in a traffic accident you may also be the one that gets a ticket besides the one that rearend you cause the brakes light were dim... ouch$

Re: Smoking taillights - Write Up
it all depends on where you live if its legal or not. good thing in texas you can run them. the only thing i dont like, is when people over do it and they look completely black and dont light up for ****. 2, maybe 3 light coats is plenty...and they look million times better than those black plastic covers you put over the light.

Re: Smoking taillights - Write Up
I did this to my S-10. I put 3 coats on. I took it last week to get it inspected and they wouldn't pass it because they said the light was restricted.
It kinda sucks, but, oh well. |
