5.7 vortec swap please help
i recently purchased a 2 door tahoe its a 93 with a complete 96 update. the truck runs but it had a bottom end knock, i was quoted 1100 for a rebuild but have found an add for a 2002 5.7 vortec for 400.00 the engine is complete minus intake will that block swap with my 96 vortec? is there a 2002 5.7vortec? i thought they were the 5.3 in 02 ofcourse i could be wrong im no expert. thanks for any help.
add states that it came from a van. i found a thread that states they made 5.7 vortecs for vns in 02, is this correct? will it swap with 96 ?? Last edited by layingC10nK5; 10-22-2009 at 05:00 AM. Reason: add info |

if its a L31 (350 vortec) chances are it came out of the chevy express van,might be a 4bolt main block also. but yes it will work just fine.

Most of the Vortec 5.7 L31 applications were terminated by 1999/2000 model years except for 1996-2003 Chevrolet Express/GMC Savana full-size vans. The 2002 Vortec from a Van should be a direct swap for your 96. Verify before starting your swap.

i believe the casting number on the bell housing flange is 068. it should also say 5.7
looks wise it will be your typical old school looking small block. it will have 3holes in the valley that holes down the spider tray that holds the roller lifters |

Early vortec blocks had '880' cast into side walls

thanks to all for the help. i took out the engine and verified that one rod was knockin. i took the crank to the machine shop, crank had to be replaced. i got a new crank, new main and rod bearings and after many hours got it back in the truck and runing
