If i remember right there should be ten bolts. and if you have a right side knuckle that has a flat top you can have it machined for the studs. I you don't you will need new knuckles. I have a matched set extra sitting in the shed. There used to be a axle id chart on coloradok5.com in the spec section .

Re: front end in a '78 camper special?
you will need new knuckles, the flat top pside was only used till 75.
being a 78 it should be a 10b axle but it could be a d44, doesnt matter. you will need both knuckles because the tierod enter from the top on 75 and ealeir knuckles. but you will only need to swap the knuckles, EVERYTHING ELSE WILL WORK !!!!!!! Last edited by 2tons of fun; 11-22-2009 at 05:06 PM. |

Think your truck might be too new to have flattops. Might even have a 10 bolt and not the Dana 44, but you could get a 44 up to 80, so anything is possible.

Re: front end in a '78 camper special?
Most likely a 10 bolt. They made the switch in 1977. Course they could of used a 44 but unlikely. Way to tell is if the diff chunk has "ears" on the bottom. If so its a ten bolt. For the cross over you will need flat top knuckles out of a Dana 44 pre75 i think. I would checkk on CK5 or wheeling dixie or one of the other 4x4 boards part section. Heck you can even try on here maybe pirate4x4...
here is a pic of the ears on the bottom ten bolt
