transmission id

on a 1973 chevy c10 short bed is the turbo 400 a short shaft or long shaft? It is an automatic non 4x4 truck.

Trans pan on a turbo 350 looks like a square wit ha corner cut off. Turbo 400 looks like this...

I know the truck is a turbo 400 i just am not with the truck so i dont know if its a short shaft or a long tail shaft tranny.

to add, I'd like the know the difference in a short tail and a long tail shaft. Is long for trucks and short for cars? please advise

I believe most trucks got the short shaft . Only long shafts i have seen were from wagons . I am no trans pro though .

LWB trucks with a 2 piece drive shaft got the short and 1 piece drive shaft got the long. I don't know on the short box. The short shaft trans has about a 4" tail and the long is 9". Caddys used a 13" tail.
