Newbie sort of, Need help with 18 or 20 rims

Hey fellows kind of new sort of, I had a 72 Chevy short bed which was my baby. The dam think caught of fire, i had the truck repainted and just sold it. I didnt have the money or time to get it back to the way I wanted too. I have since then bought an 81 short bed for whic i HAVE big plans for. Here is a questions for yall

1 I am debating if I should go with 20's or 18's I really wanted 20's at first but i think the truck would look a lot meaner with some 18's slammed. I searched this whole forum and really couldnt find any dropped trucks with 18's
Anyone have any pics for trucks with 18's on a 4/6 or lower drop? And would 295/40/18 fit the rears? I want to put the widdest tires for the rears.

here are he wheels i am thinking of

Here is my current truck

here was my old truck, RIP

After the fire

Also any vette lovers out there
My old c6 with 402 and blower

Cheers

Welcome to the 73-87 forum 1badcad. Wheel size is really a matter of personal preference. What you will find common on the 73-87's is 15's or 20's. There are a few that run 17's, some 18's and a couple 18/20's. There are even a few running 22's, but 20's are the most common.

With all that said, I recommend that you compare prices of tires. I have found that 20" tires are sometimes cheaper than 18" tires because the larger tires are mass produced. You buy wheels once, but the tires might need replaced so factor that in to your decision.

Nice wheels and tires. Did you have to clearance the front fenders? I have a 2.5/4 drop on mine with 275/60/15's. I hit a decent hump in the road and my fender gashed my tire. I have new 18's i want to put on it but don't know what size i should get. Still researching.

I noticed you werlooking for sizes . This is a 78 with a 2.5/4 inch drop . It has 18x8 with 4.5 inches of backspace on the front and a 255/55/18 tire . Rear is 18x10 with 5.25 backspace and a 275/60/18 .
I never had any trouble with it rubbing .

Thanks for the info and I hope I'm not hijacking this thread but I have a set of Boss 338's sitting in the garage waiting for me to decide on the prefect tire size so i can get them mounted. When I bought the tires I really didn't give much thought to backspacing but the saleman gave me the following info. 18x8 +2mm 18x9.5 -4mm for the wheels. Any one know what that translates to in backspacing?

And that wheel and tire combo looks sweet thanks for the pics.

I thinking about buying that same combo the backspacing on the boss 338 18X8 works out to be 4.5" and the 18x9.5 is 5.1 I found a set of BF Goodrich radial T/A 245/55/18 on the tire rack for $79 each. sure would love to see a truck with those wheels on it.
