Tool chest opinions
I am looking for opinions on this . I have two smaller top and bottom boxes and very limited space . My wife wants to get me this for christmas and i could ofset her cost with the sell of my other 2 boxes . They also have 15% off that price , so somewhere around $1600 minus $750 for my boxes = somewhere between $850-900 depending on tax and such . Replacing my boxes and going to a standup style compressor would free up alot of room . Let me know what you think .

Re: Tool chest opinions
Well to put it this way. I am banned from looking at that in lows because I left to much drool on the ground. it is VERY NICE! That would be one heck of a present. Do what you can to get it but don't over extend your self. We will need pics when you get it!

Re: Tool chest opinions
I like it, but the fridge is a little over the top for me. I suppose you can fetch a beer from the comfort of your creeper. Hmm maybe not a bad idea after all?

Re: Tool chest opinions
Although, to be realistic. you can get this, http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...T11&lpage=none
and this http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...P09&lpage=none for $1080 and be just as happy I am sure. and you still have enough money to buy a kick butt stereo a $50 fridge and still have money for a 24 pack and a couple new tools.

Re: Tool chest opinions
Also keep an eye on Costco. My BIL got a real nice one there at a great price. It's the size of a special ed bus and I think he paid aprox the same as that Kobalt. I know its smaller but they have one that seems pretty reasonable. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...=1&topnav=&s=1

Re: Tool chest opinions
Sams Club has had some nice stainless boxes in the $700 range in the past. I've seen that Lowes box, it's nice but $1800 nice? I have the HF top and bottom boxes and despite their constant failure to provide quality this one is very nice and heavy duty. My only ***** is they grab grease off your hands and it sticks, nothing a little simple green won't get though. At $6-700 for both they are a bargain. Mine even knocked me out one night without a flinch when I left the drawer open and stood up from the creeper

Re: Tool chest opinions
I'm thinking I would rather keep what you have and buy a GOOD service cart for about $500. there's something to be said for having the tools you need at arm's reach even when you get out to the driveway.

Re: Tool chest opinions
Just go for what you want!
How often are you going to do this? Divide the price by how many years it will last. What kind of legacy do you want to leave? I've got two Kennedy roll-aways that my Dad left me and I've purchased add-on boxes for my son and I, and of course my grandson to have one day. There. I justified it. Now go buy the damn thing.

Don't get the one with the fridge. What happens when the fridge goes bad?

I just bought my husband a nice Craftsman top chest for $270 on sale at Sears; they're normally about $550. After cleaning out his old box & putting only good tools in his new one, there is so much space, he now thinks he needs more tools Or you can get the top & bottom chest for $700 http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...l+Chest+Combos But whatever floats your boat, I just couldn't see spending so much when you could get something similar for half the price.

Re: Tool chest opinions
I have this one mentioned above:
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...l+Chest+Combos Suits me just fine. While it would be cool to have the one with the fridge, it is only a tool box, it holds tools and gets dirty fingers rumaging through it.

Re: Tool chest opinions
This purchase has little if anything to do with wisdom.
It does however have everything to do with cool. Mac.

I have tools and lots of them . Used to have a service truck , shop box and a home box . My job now supplies all the tools . My wife says truck parts would just dissappear , a toolbox will always be something she gave me for christmas . She wants to look at Sears tonight . I wasn't to keen on the idea at forst , but she is wearing on me . I told her if we do this and i sell my old boxes the money goes toward a new refrigerator .

Re: Tool chest opinions
Instead of all the gee gaws, bells & whistles, etc., I'd be interested/concerned about things like; how hard is it to move, it I have to move it? How smooth do the drawers open & close, especially after they have a load in them.
And I'll be upfront & honest, I'm a more of a "function over form" kind of guy. I'd rather have something that works well over something that looks purdy.

Re: Tool chest opinions
I have a Craftsman box. It's stainless and about that size. They don't have it in the store.Don't try to order it online,it took almost 2 months for mine to get here.I like the box fine they just kept shining me on about delivery.
Mine was a B-Day gift from my wife and will probably outlive me.Make sure whatever you get has ball bearing glides on it.They last longer and by making the drawers move easier make the box last better.
