What is the function of this wire to the Transfer case?

I'm sure I could research and find out what the wire to the T-case is but I figured it's much easier to ask you guys. What's the wire for that screws into the T-case? When I bought the chassis the guy had already sold the body and just cut the wire and let it hanging so I didn't get to see where it was hooked up or what it does. Thanks, Patsy!

that's your spedometer cable, it often has a small adapter box right at the TC, this compensates for different tire sizes..

looks like a rockwell 221 transfer case, that was in 67-69's...

Yeah, the frame is a 68 GMC 4x4 SWB. Will I need to get this "adaptor box"?

Once you get the truck running you will have to see how far off your speedo is from a GPS. Then find an adapter to compensate, they screw on easily...
