The 73-87 arms will swap over just fine. Ball joint tapers are different... make sure the ball joints correlate to your spindle year. Ball joints for earlier spindles will press right in to the later arms.

Yes. You'll need the correct BJ for the spindle you plan to use.

Re: a arm question

73 and up 1/2ton use a rubber bushing 72 and down use a threaded steel bushing. which if your truck is lowered will provide more ground clearence. The 1/2 ton A arms will interchange with the correct ball joint.

That's the main "advantage"... the parts are less expensive on the 73-87 than the 63-72.

Re: a arm question

can you run a 73-87 upper and a 67-72 lower. i ask because i have already cupped a set of 67-72 lowers and have a nice set of 73-87 uppers. a lot of work to cup the lower arms is why i ask.

Like Scoti said you can but you must make sure you match your spindles to the ball joints. If you have 73 up the upper and lower have to be 73 and up ball joints regardless of what the a-arms came from.

Also don't forget the tie rod ends are different from 72 generation to the 73 generation.
I just swapped mine.
