Ill introduce myself and my vehicles
My name is Dan and im new to these boards but in no way new to the classic chevys. I've been round them my whole life, and i learned everything i know from my father whos an expert body man and a real good mechanic. Im 17 years old, i got my first car when i was 14, i payed for everything myself ( 2 jobs and sidework come in handy haha ). Anyways my first car was a 1971 chevy nova, i will never sell her. I had the greatest time of my life bringing this beauty back from the dead with my father. We do it all ourselves, we outsource nothing except machine work on engine blocks. Since then weve done quite a few projects together, he does the body work and i do all the mechanical and electrical. When i was 16 i bought myself another project, a 1968 c10 short fleet. i gave $1500 for it, it was running and driving with a 327 and a th350. It has an original 12 bolt 3.73 posi rear, HD coil spring package, and original tach dash. And there was barely any rust. So i proceeded to restore her, and then i drove her all last summer (as well as my nova) until November when a speeding ford (going approximately 75 or more in a 55) came over a blind hill as i was pulling out onto the road and took me out... If you think my truck got hit bad, you should see the ford, it got to say the least. that ford was totaled beyond belief. But not mine luckily (they just dont build um like they used to), well to most it would be, but not to me. My angels were with me because i walked away without a scratch, as well as the other guy. So now im in the rebuilding stage again and i should have her done within another month. So ill show you some pictures of my Nova and my truck. The Nova's my favorite, but i love the truck too. First theres before and after of the nova. she has a bored out 327 with a mild comp cam, weiand intake, edelbrock carb, powerglide and a 3.73 posi. And old centerlines. Ill post truck pictures in a minute it only lets me do 5 per post.

Re: Ill introduce myself and my vehicles
And now heres my truck, since im rebuilding her again i swapped in an L79 327 from a 67 nova with the origional chrome dual snorkle and chrome valve covers. i got a new frame from georgia, and a perfect origional cab that a friend brought up from mexico for me. my box didnt get hurt and basically everything else will be the same, same tranny, rear, interior... etc.. and obviously new fenders and hood. but here are some pictures. the first is when i first got her, the second was when i fixed it the first time, then the wreck, then the rebuild again.

Re: Ill introduce myself and my vehicles
and heres some more of the new frame, L79 engine and the underneath of the cab. As of today (new years 2010) the truck looks like the picture of the cab and engine on the frame, and the underneath pic was taken today as well theres also a pic with my moms orange 68 nova, my dads black 68 camaro and my dads blue 1971 truck in the backround. As you can see, i like my Nova hot-rodded and my truck as original as possible. there will be NO ridiculous big wheels and drop kits for this baby! Enjoy! and Nice to meet all of you! and also happy new years!

He says what happened in his 1st post.
That's quite a collection you and your pops have. Your nova looks great and the truck will look great again!

Re: Ill introduce myself and my vehicles
Do you have any more pictures that have the engine and exhuast? I'm thinking about putting some 2.5" center dump corvette manifolds like those on my truck but some people say that they won't clear the engine mount

Re: Ill introduce myself and my vehicles
Sure thing, i went out this morning and took some pictures for ya. You will have absolutely no problem clearing the engine mount, there's plenty of space. Chevy made 2 different style "rams horns" or "center dump" manifolds, one style was like the ones on my truck, the 90* style that go strait down. But there was also another style that was called the 45* style, because the collector on them was kicked backwards 45*. Either style will defiantly fit and you will not have a problem clearing the mounts. I hope i helped and good luck on your project! Also thanks to everybody for your replies and welcomes!

Re: Ill introduce myself and my vehicles
Welcome from a fellow New Yorker (western). You have acquired great skills at an early age and you and your Dad have turned out some outstanding Chevys. Looks like Remsen is in the edges of the Adirondacks, one of the most beautiful areas in the State. I make it a point to ride the motorcycle through those mountains every summer. Happy New Year.

Re: Ill introduce myself and my vehicles
hey chevroletman223
i too congratulate you on your fine fleet of classic rides. equally impressive is the stable (aka garage) you keep them in. i want something just like that at my place (i have the land but not the funds) to put my 72 burb and other future projects in rather than sit out in the snow and moisture. it looks like your shop has a huge overhead space too. i am wanting to combine a multi-bay garage with an upstairs storage/hang out place for big gatherings because i have a small house. cars, tools, motorcycles furniture....yes.......space for it all.....no..... i also agree with you on keeping your cars looking stock. thats the beauty of an old vehicle....if i needed a comfy ride or a throw away vehicle to hack up into a frankenstein, i'd buy a late model because there are plenty of them around. hope you go with a (6 lug obviously) disc brake conversion on the front.....that makes all the difference in the world when you want to stop! |
