Re: 2 piece driveshaft angle adjustment????
that's pretty sweet! before I start driving, I need to replace the joints and the center bearing- that sliding shaft kit would take care of most of that as well! - They don't have prices listed on the site-- you said you only paid $250 for that rear sliding section with the poly center support bearing? if so, that sounds like a kick a$$ deal...

Re: 2 piece driveshaft angle adjustment????
I did pretty much the same thing with my bagged longbed. Whenever I was riding low a vibration would come in like you described. I had an auto truck with the carrier bearing hanging off what was basically a fancy L-bracket on the trailing arm crossmember. I made a new bracket that moved the carrier bearing closer to the top of the crossmember, getting the rear section driveshaft back to a less extreme angle, eliminating the vibration.
The only issue I could think of with this is my front section of driveshaft from the trans to the carrier bearing was now straight in line, and u-joints need to run at an angle to keep the needles in the cups rotating, effectively shortening the life of my u-joints. But I never had any problems. Sorry this was almost ten years ago, so no pics.

Re: 2 piece driveshaft angle adjustment????
When I replaced my carrier bearing a couple of weeks ago I found that it was shimmed. The truck is new to me and I'm not sure why it was done originally. The ride height is stock and it drives fine so I just put them back in.
The bearing is dropped about 1 inch, just some old scrap plate shims on top of the assembly. I'm not sure if it required longer bolts cause I don't know what stock was. So ya.... it can be done. |
