Question Cab swap question

I am looking at cabs to swap the little window out of my 67 stepper. I looked at a pretty nice cab today from a 71 non AC auto with low tunnel. He also has a 69 (he thinks) A/C cab auto low tunnel cab that has more obvious repair needed (rockers, some windshield area rust, drip rail, roof dents) I want to eventually add a vintage air A/C system and I am wondering how much work it is to add the system into the non A/C cabs. I know I can drill the holes for the a/c balls and the one above the radio, but other than that I have no idea what else would be involved. If anyone here has done this swap, please let me know how much trouble it is or if I should just look for an A/C cab. I just hope the cab is as solid as it looks, the last cab I had looked great, and it was a can of worms

Re: Cab swap question

67 has hand type parking brake, 70-72 has foot parking brake. Holes in firewall are different. Also you must consider weather you need a high or low transmission hump.

I like the foot parking brake, and I have a spare set up for that. If I eventually swap to a manual tranny , I guess I would have to cut and make a high hump ? Mainly I want to get the Vintage Air unit for the HOT summers. I think I need to visit the Vintage Air website Thanks for the input

Re: Cab swap question

You don't have to have the high hump unless you go to a truck type four speed (sm465) if you go with a 3 speed or any of the car four speeds, t10, saginaw or muncie you can use the low hump with no problem. 67-68 had hand type emergency brakes, 69-72 were foot operated types. As far as the a/c this has become a fairly common addition. There is a difference in the heater cut out on the firewall that you will have to change as well as cutting the holes for all of the a/c vents. A easier method if you can find one is a dealer installed a/c unit or vintage or old air products type a/c system this allows you to put vents where you want them i.e. stock or otherwise.
