Gremlins!!

My truck runs great and I've put a couple thousand miles on it lately. It just started dying when i go to stop at a light or when I am backing out of the driveway. Then it starts right up without a problem. I don't think it's a fuel problem since the engine doesn't rotate more than one time before it starts again and I don't have to pump the gas..... any ideas?

Re: Gremlins!!

I once had a problem of my truck dying at stop lights or at the bottom of off ramps. I checked out my engine and found a cracked vacuum line. Fixed it and the problem went away.

Re: Gremlins!!

A little more info would help like engine, transmission, hei or points.

If it was running good before and nothing was done to the engine, then look for vacuum leaks as GreaseM mentioned. Carb base gasket and middle gaskets on quadrajets are know to come loose. Check all vacuum rubber hoses and flex and unflex them to see if you can find cracks.

If you have points, recheck the gap. I'd also check to make sure it's not flooding. Sometimes too much fuel especially during low idle will cause the engine to die. Quadrajets had problems with leaking plugs. Check for smoke when you first restart it.
