Re: what did you get done 1/17/10 edition

Installed a second battery and wired it all up to include battery tray warmers for each battery and an onboard 1 1.2 amp trickle charger hooked up to them as well. Got all three plus the block heater plugged into a 4way plug located under one battery tray with a single cord exiting out the grill to plug them all in during those long cold winter nights up here. Also swapped out the stock 105 amp alternator with a 140 amp one. made for a cold work day (25*, 7* with wind chill) but it's all done.

man, now if you have problems starting you're in trouble....that should really help...I might have to try those battery warmers...it doesn't get really really cold down here, but when it does get cold my dual batteries die down alot...if I can't get the diesel to spin fast enough, the injection pump won't pump fuel...where did you get those and how much were they?

Re: what did you get done 1/17/10 edition

I finished rebuilding the 12-bolt for the '83, and then installed it in the truck. I rebuilt the rear brakes, and when I started to bleed the system I realized pretty quickly that in my haste to get the front end back on the ground 3 months ago, I didn't install any front brake pads (don't ask me why). I wound up pushing the pistons out of the calipers and making a mess all over my nicely painted parts and the garage floor.

I guess that's what happens when you lay off of a project for a few months and then try to get back going full speed.

Re: what did you get done 1/17/10 edition

Saturday morning was up before the sun to drive 3 counties away to pick up a parter suburban, I got home just in time to make the girls breakfast. Cleaned the kids toy room. organized the shop. Sunday: Went to home depot and found a killer deal on knobs and pulls for he kitchen. Bought a cherry picker (harbor freight). pulled the bed off the 91. roasted some tires. watched a good movie (all about Steve)

Finally got around to installing the Vette servo in Fred's transmission. Cleaned up the shop a little too. Also watch some GREAT football. Glad to see the Cowgirls learn what everyone already knew all year long, and it was great to see Phillip Rivers cry.

Re: what did you get done 1/17/10 edition

Went to a tractor auction Saturday. They expected 250 bidders and got 650+, nice day, but not farming weather yet. Then went and picked up an A-833 manual overdrive and 208? transfer case. Yesterday put away Christmas stuff and started getting the basement wall ready for point. I have today off and wouldn't you know it, I'm SICK!

It's an aftermarket item that we carry at work. They just sit right under the battery on the tray and the heat travels up through the battery to help keep them warm. We get them from the local carquest stores up here. They work much better than a battery blanket I think and don't look as goofy as the blankets do. I'll try to get some pics later if you'd like.

Beautiful pups. We have a blue female, that's about 10. If something happens to her, I think I want a big, grey male.

Re: what did you get done 1/17/10 edition

I had a busy weekend with a 3 day swap meet, we sold a bit and i bought a 400 small block bored out to 406, it has all the good parts in it and is ready to drop in and drive.

Cost me $3000 that is super cheap here, I also sold my old engine and other parts I had to rebuild it, got $2500 for it all, so only owes me $500

Re: what did you get done 1/17/10 edition

I went out to the truck Sunday to turn it around in the driveway. I have a muffler that fell apart on the inside, and it sounds REALLY bad. I was going to replace the mufflers with some new ones. Unfortunately the truck wouldn't start. I got to spend Sunday and Monday trying to figure out what was wrong. It turned out to be the ignition module in my Mallory HEI with only 15,000 miles on it.

I'm still driving it around with the bad muffler, and it is getting LOUDER! On the way to work this morning, I was passed by an old primered C10 that sounded even worse than mine. I didn't think it was possible at this point.

Re: what did you get done 1/17/10 edition

Well, I thought I would find put why I couldn't get fuel to the carb. Replaced the fuel pump and got the fuel deliviry problem fixed only to find the carburetor leaked all over the place. I got a rebuild kit for it and thank goodness bc the inside of the carb was very nasty. After getting it done, now fuel pours out of the vent tube in the back so it's back to pulling the cab off.

Re: what did you get done 1/17/10 edition

Figured out that I have a bent/twisted leaf spring from the accident almost 2 years ago. also the axle case may be bent. Dunno how I missed it for so long considering I looked it all over so closely..... must have been the excitement from getting it painted and the new interior... I feel like an idiot for missing that and then it was so super plain as day today....
