Maybe a stupid question about Cruise Control
Could you get Cruise Control put on a truck with a manual transmission? I don't think you could, but is it possible? Trevor

Re: Maybe a stupid question about Cruise Control
Yes of course... Cruise control disengages when the brake or clutch is applied.
No reason why not. Have done it before - have also put the car cruise control onto a motorbike.

Re: Maybe a stupid question about Cruise Control
Well, I didn't know, I thought that it might not be an option to get cruise on a manual tranny truck until they created the cruise systems with resume and such on them. Trevor

Re: Maybe a stupid question about Cruise Control
you can get different types... try and steer clear of the magnet version - i had one on my bike and the magnets fell off - not cool

Re: Maybe a stupid question about Cruise Control
Well, I would use a 1970 factory cruise setup I have, but the truck is a 4 speed 70' 4x4 and I don't know if it was possible back then. Trevor

Re: Maybe a stupid question about Cruise Control
HI Trevor,
Pretty sure it was available but not 100% sure on the the early setup (I have no documentation) but if you take a look at the installation PDF I sent you awhile back from 71 you will notice that they show how to set it up for the manual transmission on page 4. Is it foggy down in Osage county? Jeff

Re: Maybe a stupid question about Cruise Control
Thanks Jeff, I will look at that PDF again. When we bought my 71' it had the 70' setup with the wrong black turn signal switch that the previous owner grabbed from a 69'. I have everything for it including the correct 67-70' switch to put on the 70' swb we brought home, but it's a manual. I always thought you couldn't get a manual cruise, but like I said, I wasn't sure. Trevor

Re: Maybe a stupid question about Cruise Control
It basically shows setting up another vacuum switch on the clutch pedal, hit the clutch and whosh, there goes the vacuum.

Re: Maybe a stupid question about Cruise Control
Jeff, I might have to hit you up when it comes to be the time to hook things up on my cruise systems. I know you have been there. I am sure the 71' won't take much, but the 70' might be a little different. Trevor

Re: Maybe a stupid question about Cruise Control
My Jimmy had cruise installed. It is not on the glove box list, but was on the truck when my Dad bought it in '77 off a used car lot. It appears to be all GM, but who knows? The Jimmy is an SM465. It's still on the truck, but hasn't functioned in years. I replaced the turn signal/cruise stalk with an ordinary one years ago because it was dangling.

Re: Maybe a stupid question about Cruise Control
VDO and Commander do aftermarket CC units that will fit almost anything.

Re: Maybe a stupid question about Cruise Control
Ok....so was the factory cruise control an option with a standard transmission? I'm confused which isn't the first time.

Re: Maybe a stupid question about Cruise Control
I also remember seeing something in my cruise info about the cancel switch on the manuals being on the clutch pedal.
