i am going to keep the manual brakes on my truck but i have converted it to disc/drum now and need to know if there is a trick instead of buying a new one from cpp.

Re: master cylinder

Are you using a dual line system with a "proportioning valve"
Usually the best thing to do is to use the MC for the donor truck that the discs came from check the FAC sticky to see if the disc threads are there yet
Captainfab makes adapters for master updates
if you have more questions give us more details as to your plans

Re: master cylinder

When I first put disc brakes in the front of my 1960 I just bought a stock manual master cylinder for a 1975 from Napa. Don't remember for sure if this is the one, but it shows the pricing for something comparable:

Re: master cylinder

All you need is a manual master cylinder for a '71 or newer truck with disc/drums. It will bolt right up to your firewall. You might have to modify the pushrod though.

I'll take a look at that and see if I can offer something of value. Thanks for the tip.

Re: master cylinder

do you know if it would have to be a truck mc for it to bolt up because my buddy just built a hot rod with manual disc/drum brakes and he used a 72 vega mc would that work for me

Re: master cylinder

I don't know about a Vega master, but most passenger cars should have the same bolt pattern. I would suggest using a truck master on a truck since it will have the correct bore to work with your truck sized wheel cylinders. It shouldn't be any harder to find a truck specific master at the parts store than a passenger car master.

Don't forget you'll need the proportioning valve as well.

Re: master cylinder

I agree with Captainfab on this unless you really know what you doing mixing up brake parts can be mayhem
