Complaint about bedsides

Sorry just *****ing and moaning here...

But I got rearended last week and in my quest to find a short fleetside bedside for sale(passenger side) and realizing how hard is it find one and how exspensive they are. I can't believe with all the aftermarket body panels already produced for our trucks that there isn't a company that makes bedsides. They would make a FORTUNE! The quest continues!

Re: Complaint about bedsides

I have heard for the past several years, that the fleetside bed sides, for the '60-'66 Chevy swb trucks are coming soon.

I couldn't agree with you more. My shop is twenty minutes south of Classic Parts...twenty minutes north of LMC Truck and 30 minutes west of Jim Carter, so I have the luxury of seeing these items in person at the city counter, prior to purchasing them. I have walked out empty-handed, more than once, due to the poor quality, fit and finish of the reproduction patch panels being offered by the truck parts retailers.

I found those listings too...called, and they didn't have it. I'm sure once the weather gets better here in So Cal that a few may pop up.

They have front, center and rear sections for 6' and 8' fleetside bed sides. These are also available at:

www.classicparts.com
www.lmctruck.com
www.bowtiebits.com
www.oldchevytrucks.com
www.truckandcarshop.com

as well as many other aftermarket truck parts suppliers.

I haven't heard of or used Eire Trading Post, but I saved the link. Thanks for posting. I did notice, after looking through all of their parts for '60-'66 Chevy/GMC trucks, that some of their photos are upside down or missing and in the case of the dash repair panel, they show a panel that is not correct for any of the '60-'63 Chevy or GMC dashes or the 4-5-6 Chevy or GMC dashes. Also, they list some of their grilles as '60-'66 Chevy/GMC...as we know, the Chevy and GMC grilles are not the same and the '60-'61, '62, '63 & '64-'66 are all different.

If purchasing from this company, I would make sure I had a picture of what they were shipping, because of all the inconsistencies on their website. In any case, thanks for sharing.

Yeah you know you see allot of inconsistencies everywhere, I think ebay is the worst with parts listed to fit Chevy or GMC that are specific of one or the other. They just want to sell something for the $$$ so buyer beware. Thanks Tony ---Vernski

Re: Complaint about bedsides

Try looking on craigslist but look under trailers not trucks. I bought my trailer short step side bed for $75 because they made a trash trailer out of one.

Re: Complaint about bedsides

We sell the partial sides just like everyone else does. It does not matter what company you purchase them from. They do not have any plans as far as I know about making them any time soon. Everyone thinks that these parts are made by many companies, or that so and so's parts are better quality than others. That is true on some body parts for these trucks but most are made by the same MFG. Just depends on which part. Just ask them what brand or who MFG the part.

The beds are out their. Thier are a couple around here and some in Virginia we know of

It pays to buy parts from companies that have the personel that know parts hands down. But just to be fair. Even the companies who Mfg. parts screw up the years and models that certain parts fit. An inexperienced person sometimes just believes the box and that can be wrong. Ebay I think can be a good thing but many times it can be some guy working out of an apartment.
Many of our suppliers forbid us to sell on ebay. Thats why many companies have established price controls. To stop these guys from giving away parts cheap with no investment and no warranty coverage and no recourse. We get people here that want a part replaced. We want to see a real companies reciept where they bought it. If off ebay from a non company we can't honor it.
There is a company on Ebay that i tried to buy a part from. It turned out that they were less than 5 miles from our shop. They would not let me come over and pick up the part. Said they HAD to ship it to me. It was their policy. Yeah right.
Anyway its best to ask. People have employees that edit websites. SOme of them do not know parts and they can mess up or they just get tired. Its best to call and ask if in doubt. We even find errors in our suppliers descriptions that are million dollar companies.

actually, the swb fleet was the rarest body style. If we thought we could make a fortune we would could have them made.
