Can anybody tell me if you can install a hitch receiver if you have a rear roll pan and no rear bumper?
If it is possible would I need the "hidden hitch" type

I had one welded on by a local hitch shop when I had a roll pan. It was set up to go behind the license plate.

I think that ece and cpp both make hidden hitches for our trucks.

Yup, that's what you are looking for. A "Hidden Hitch" and a rollpan with a flip down licence plate (er... tag)

When I was shopping, and this was probably seven years ago, I thought that the hidden hitch was just a tad too low for a roll pan. I could be wrong, as my memory isn't all that great. You will want to do measurements yourself, but don't order that one without measuring. I am pretty sure a bumper will sit a couple inches lower than a standard roll pan.

I just installed an ECE hidden hitch. I don't know if a roll pan is low enough however I also installed one a few years ago in my 89 GMC 1500 and it was perfect with a roll pan in that trucks. I could measure anything if you need me to.

Big Al,
I made a custom roll pan out of diamond plate for my 69 so it is different than a standard roll pan. If you could give me the measurement from the bottom of the frame rail to the top of the receiver bar that would tell me a lot. All the hidden hitches I have found say "not for use with roll pan". Also my license plate bracket is tucked up behind the roll pan in the center so I will probably have to move it.

If that is the ECE hitch that you have then I know it won't work because it would clearly show below my roll pan and because it extends out so far past the frame rail it would also interfere with my new tailpipes.
