Pretty sure it will, IIRC the front mounts for the core support are different, can't think of anything else. Also if the truck is an auto, gonna need to swap out the tranny hump for a 4wd, as they are taller to clear the t-case.

I'm not sure on that. Somewhere I read that the 2wd got a 35 spline shaft and the 4wds were 10 spline on the older ones, and 32 on the newer ones.

Re: 76 2wd body to 84 4x4 frame?
They are in the same location so no problem there, only the front bumber mounts are different the 76's are part of the frame and will need to be cut off and welded to the 84's frame.
In order to use the 2wd cab you will need a 3 inch body lift to clear the transfercase or the 4x4 tranny tunnel that b454rat mentioned and make sure to use body mount bushings for the 84. If your tranny is a TH400 than a 32 spline NP205 with the adapter for a Th400 will bolt right up if it is a TH350 than there is a slight possibility that the tailshaft is the correct length for a NP208 with adapter for a TH350 or the 700R4 to bolt up.

Re: 76 2wd body to 84 4x4 frame?
I have a similar project and I'm changing out the tranny hump. Look for one out of about a 1984 and older and the tranny hump will be bolted in. You can just unbolt it and take it out of the truck. After about 1985 they are welded. I'm not sure exactly what year they changed. I got my tranny hump from an 83' and it was bolted in.
