Re: truck salvage yard
Is it possibly called Heaven? Tried various searches including Junk Yard Dog but nothing matches the description or says that it specializes in 60's Chevy trucks.

Re: truck salvage yard
well... its just 2 rows, maybe 60 trucks at the most, he does have about the same amount of 67-72's as well, he does not do mail order, so you will have to drive all the way to arlee ,mt if you want any parts!!
the crusher did come through last year, we lost about 15, mostly bare cab/frames, but a few complete trucks as well. heres a pic:

Re: truck salvage yard
That truck in the last picture there has an odd look to it. doesn't seem quite right for some reason, maybe its just the angle of the picture (or maybe I'm crazy??)

Re: truck salvage yard
funny story , notice how the right side is off?
Kelly told me a guy spent a few hours pulling it one day, only to find out when he got it off that it was a short fleet bed that had been shortened to fit on a blazer frame , which is still there minus the suspension...

Re: truck salvage yard
By the way, to do a screen capture, all you need to do is press the "print screen" key on your keyboard (above or around your number pad), go to any image editing program that you use (microsoft paint works just fine) click edit on the top tool bar, click paste from the drop down box, and a capture of your screen will appear.
Example (can be made at any size):

Its fun looking at all the trucks and seeing all the different stuff thats been done to them.. one of them has a house style electrical outlet fabbed into the dash one has the center of the top cut out and snaps all around, targa style.. there is the one thats on the blazer frame.. one ofthem has a 326 pontiac motor mounted in it.. a green forest service one is missing the doors, and then you see the same doors on the truck they were put on, but it had been rolled at a later date, and is now in the yard...

Re: truck salvage yard
Man I would love to visit that place one day though. It sucks that there aren't really any really good hoods there though. There aren't enough good one's left for the number of these that are being worked on.

I would say that only 50% of the trucks there even have the hood left..., so there probably were some good ones in the past. but the 62-6 chev hood is definately a good candidate for a repro piece, especially since it is the same basic hood as the 62-6 gmc, they would only need to change out the front piece to make the 2 different hoods.

I have 3-4 good hoods at my shop in Kansas City, KS.
Thanks for sharing the photos...I wish I could save them all from the crusher. If I ever win the lottery I am going to save them all. |
