Have a few questions about 69 c10 Panel truck

Ok, well actually I have a LOT of questions. But I'll try to space them out over time.

I just bought my first classic truck. It's a 69 C10 Panel with the 292 and what I can only assume is the original 3spd tranny. It was column shift but somewhere in the trucks 40+ years someone moved it to the floor (very jury-rigged...)

Anyways, so my first question:
With the wood bed, will a long bed flareside kit work with the panel truck? I know my truck is based on the 127inch wheelbase, so I don't see why it wouldn't.

Also, this is the first truck/car I've ever done any work to, I'm a noob. Since it's got a 292 that's still in pretty good shape, I don't plan to swap it out any time soon. But I'd like to drop in a 5spd trans from say a 80-90's truck. So what do I have to look out for swapping the trans?

Otherwise, it's nice to meet everybody and I'm sure you'll see my name again!

No, your floor is too long and you do not have enough support under your bed for wood planks. Not that you couldn't make some, but the floor is too long even for longhorn wood.

Lots have done it here, but I think there is speedometer issues. WES

Can't help on the wood but Wes has that covered pretty well. As far as the 5 speed this is a pretty good thread about it:

Re: Old dude in Texas needs help!

This is my first post. I'm an old dude and have had 4 '71-72's in my past. While I love this site and have little to contribute, I have learned alot here, (and will contribute $'s to clear the guilt). I have a '39 chevy coupe that I was building when I found a deal a "relatively nice" '72 long bed that I picked up. I was going to use it to just chase parts and it ran pretty good. In fact it was quite spunky, but was built with a bit too much compression. It really needed to be run on a higher than octane than is pumped around here. To kill the ping I had to retard the timing more than my step son, (kidding). Anyway I decided to go through the motor and lower the compression a bit.
So.... (I figure only trucktarded people on this site would understand) it is now down to the frame, which I have shortened, and going back with an LS1, (hence Coupeonhold). I will probably post some pics, if I figure out how.
So, I do have some wrenching experience, but will be coming to the fuel, electrical issues that each LSX swapper has had to deal with and I need some help. I have a Vette '02 LS1/4L60E so it is DBW and I want to incorperate cruise contol. If anyone in the Houston area has experience, please drop me a line.

It's got a wood bed now. The guy I bought it from said it was original, just that the wood had been redone at some point.

And yeah, it's a sunny day out, I need to go take some pictures and I'll put them up.

All Panels have wood beds however is it wood planks or plywood? Original Panel floors are 107" long. That is 1" under 9'. Shortbed trucks are 6' long, long bed trucks are 8' long, and Longhorns are 8'6" long.
