The reason I have to give up my truck.
I know it sounds sad, but I have owned one of these cars since I was 15, and I have yet to drive one (I'm currently 26).
These cars have been the love of my life ever since I first laid eyes on one. So, here is the reason I must give up the truck, and hopefully I will be able to get back into one soon. I do have some big plans for it, but currently I just want to finish enough to drive it for a couple years and then really get into it. More photos at http://s739.photobucket.com/albums/xx35/LowBow57/, including the sweet frame I just bought that has a triangulated four link, F**d 9", Tubular front suspension, 'fatman' front snout, rack and pinion, and Air ride shockwaves on all four corners!

Re: The reason I have to give up my truck.
One of my dream cars as well, but I highly highly doubt I'll ever get to own one
Just curious... you've had this car for 11 years and sold your truck for the space/money to work on it finally? or you sold your truck to buy this car?

What the heck. When you are ready for another truck it will be aquired easier than that car. Build thread to follow?

Re: The reason I have to give up my truck.
I feel your pain with that choice. Here are some pics of mine. The yellow one is how it was when I drove it in high school, it's the one in primer/sealer now. I pushed it aside so I could do my truck with my dad. I hope to get back on it soon. The 150 and the HT are just a couple I picked up along the way. Of course the one that means the most to me is in the WORST shape.
Good luck with yours. |

Re: The reason I have to give up my truck.
I actually had two 2 door sedans (complete basket cases), sold those, and I have been holding the money trying to find a decent 2 door hardtop for a while. Finally found one after I had already bought the truck. The '57 takes precedence over the truck, hence I have to get rid of the truck.

Build thread as I can. The car is at my uncle's shop 4 hours from me. I hope to have it mostly driveable this summer, gonna really push to get it done!

I don't know who has, but you should all go and check out the photobucket link, it has pics of my car, but also some of my uncle's projects and toys. Lots of fun stuff!

Re: The reason I have to give up my truck.
Driving down to work on it again this weekend! Pretty excited.
The goal for this weekend is to get that body onto the other chassis (temporarily) until my uncle gets his rotisserie back. Also going to the 'Billetproof' Show in Gainesville this weekend, should be a blast! Pictures to come...

Re: The reason I have to give up my truck.
I agree with the others, it's a good choice.
My dad totalled a black 57 Bel Air 4-door when he fell asleep and hit a pole, with my mom asleep on his shoulder. The transformer fell off the pole and just missed the car -- I wouldn't be here if it had hit them. So I'm grateful for that, but always wished he coulda kept the car. Every time I see a black 57, it stops me in my tracks. I guess everybody has a "shoebox" story

Re: The reason I have to give up my truck.
pretty successful weekend, got the body set onto the new frame (it is nice and low!), cut away all the cancer on the drivers side. The Billetproof show that I went to had a lot of cool cars, and gave me a really cool idea for a powertrain, one that I think a lot of you guys will like.
Pictures to come, I got to the show and realized that my camera was dead, then had to drive even farther from home to work on the car. All my pictures are on my blackberry, so i gotta email them to myself, so it takes a little while to do that.

Re: The reason I have to give up my truck.
Finally got the blackberry to sync with the computor!
Still on the old chassis, waiting to go to the new one. The old chassis. This section was right underneath the drivers side door. scary. Success! A little better picture. And cancerous panel gone.

Re: The reason I have to give up my truck.
Couple more.
The old chassis getting ready for the scrap yard. I know what you are probably thinking, but there really wasn't enough left of it to salvage. 'Fatman Fabrications' front snout. The front bags still have a little air in them. That is a prybar handle. Nice and low! Couple of cars that were at the Billetproof show. Pretty cool show, everything from Gassers to rat rods. This thing was sick, so much detail and little things. I would see something new on it every time I walked by, which I happened to make several trips to check it out!

Re: The reason I have to give up my truck.
It took seven guys to pick that pig off the old frame and move it to the new one. Heavy beast!
