Which Trans?

I thought I was going to put a NV3500 in my 73' 1/2 ton longbed, but now I'm not sure. I want to keep the 250 in it, and probably the 3.73 gears too. Just not sure if I should go with an NV3500, a 200r4 or a 700r4. I want to be able to do some light towing (travel trailer, small boat, load of wood, etc.). I like the manual, just not sure if it will be the best for gearing and MPG (I want the option that gives me the best MPG possible). Any thoughts?

Re: Which Trans?

I think either one will give you big mpg gains, but neither one moreso than the other, Auto OD or 5-speed. And, of course, a stick is cooler on an old truck.

Re: Which Trans?

I think I am leaning towards the NV3500. I'm just a wondering if there will be any issues getting a clutch combo together. I would need to look into some kind of clutch master cylinder too. Is there an easy way to convert the gauges to electronic? Could I just swap in a later square body cluster?

Re: Which Trans?

Anybody have any tips or suggestions for swapping in an NV3500 into one of these trucks? What was your solution for the speedometer, clutch master, clutch/pressure plate, and driveline? Any tips would be great. Right now I'm looking at about $250 for the tranny alone. Is that reasonable?
