Hail!

We had a big thunderstorm about 8:00 this morning in my town. I pulled into the school parking lot about 7:50, and saw a huge thundercloud in the distance, and heard lightning cracking. About 5 minutes later it started to rain, and then small hail started to fall. Another few minutes later, the hail was 1" to 2" in diamater. My truck was of course un-protected in the parking lot. I went to look at it, and my hood is now trash . It has 50+ small dings all over it, and a couple big ones. The top of my cab is the same way, with many little dings and two big ones. The rest of my truck did OK, it has about 5 or 6 other small dings scattered around the front fenders, doors and bedsides. I only have liability insurance to add to the problem. The rest of my truck isn't that nice, the cab has rust in the rockers, a little in the floor, and plenty above the windshield, and it needs one bedside. So, this is either an excuse to dump some money into the body of my truck, or find one with a better body......

BTW, almost every car in town that wasn't garaged has hail damage, so business should be great for local body shops, lol.

Sorry to hear that - we had a hail storm in Wichita KS a few years ago that caused unbelievable damage - caused a bunch of insurance companies to stop selling in Kansas.

Used hoods are cheap enough, but cabs are a lot more work. I saw that your storm on the news this morning but our weather guy said it would hail here. There is a sprayable body filler that you could use to fill all of those dents.

Sorry to here that. I've been there too. One of those dent guys can probably make your hood look new ( If the paint has good adhesion and is not too thick)and the cab will need a bodyman to shrink out the big dings with heat. Spray filler works fine for real small stuff but won't likely be much good for the deep dings.

I feel your pain. My truck got hit a couple of summers ago. That's why I'm looking for a good original white hood. Luckily the damage was confined to the hood and cab top on my truck. The trim and everything else is OK.

Well, most of the trim is OK, besides a few dents on the top of my grille. I think i decided on a new "look" for the truck. I think it would look pretty good if i fixed all the rust, slapped a steel cowl hood on in, and then paint the whole truck primer grey with some good epoxy primer. Then if i were to put some 15x10 rims on the back, and tint the windows, i think it would look pretty bad a$$, and cost much less then the stock paint job i want to do eventually to it. At least the hail gave me a good excuse for the cowl hood, and fix the rust above the windshield and the dents with the cab roof i have laying around. Now all i need is a little money, lol.

I feel your pain too...my GMC got hit less than a week before I left Tx in 2001. Hood and top of cab.
The cab that I saved from the first Longhorn got a few pock marks on the roof too.

we had a hail storm today also. I work at discount tire and for once the people want us to keep their cars in our bays instead of grapping about getting them out faster. It got to be about baseball size for about five mins. The ground looked like it had snowed.
