Installed a Wideband
Installed an Innovate LC-1 Wideband Controller. Wanted one to make it easier to dial in my carb. It's pretty cool, I can plug my laptop into it and log AFR. Had a heck of a time trying to weld in the bung, ended up getting it welded at a muffler shop. Owner of the shop had a '72 Custom Camper he was trying to sell. Big block truck, but he said the motor had a messed up cam possibly. Sorry, no pics of the truck.

Re: Installed a Wideband
I just installed a AEM UEGO wideband myself. I almost bought the same one you installed.
Have you dialed in your motor yet? I am just curious to the a/f numbers that your motor runs the best at. |

I just got it installed, haven't had time to mess with it yet.

Re: Installed a Wideband
Well then, let the addiction begin!!!!
Its hard to stop tuning until you get it perfect. I am pulling old carbs off the shelf and tuning them. i got the Edlebrock tuned. now i am trying to tune my road demon. after that i will rebuild and tune the holley. Its interesting to see and experience the real differences in the brands of carbs. The Demon, running pig rich, is quicker and smoother than the edelbrock. |

Re: Installed a Wideband
LOL, I'd like to be able to log RPM and maybe vacuum, but that's more $$$. Probably just stick with the LC-1 for now. The guy that designed the JAW and NAW is coming out with one called SLC that can log AFR, RPM, EGT, Boost, + 7 external 0-5v inputs. Should be interesting.

Re: Installed a Wideband
I am not logging with mine....yet. i have a vacuum gauge next to the a/f gauge. this allows me to know exactly when the carb is going from cruise to power modes, power valves are coming in, and what the vacuum advance is doing...all while monitoring the a/f ratio.
i have a pic at home of my in-cab setup. i'll try and post it later. |

Re: Installed a Wideband
whoa!! so you can use this electronic stuff to tune your carbs??? how does it work? is it an easy install. I suck at tuning my carb, i always just turn fuel mix and idle randomly until it seems to run good, this looks like something worth looking into.

Re: Installed a Wideband
The wideband O2 sensor measures something, O2? Who knows, but the end result is it measures your air fuel ratio. Install wasn't bad, lot's of wires with mine. Could not get any penetration trying to weld in the bung, but other then that pretty easy install.

Re: Installed a Wideband
I got it off Fleabay for about $185 shipped. List price is $229. Guy on Fleabay says he's a dealer for Innovate. I'm only running one on the driver's side. I figure what ever I do to one side of the carb, just do it to the other side too. I could see maybe wanting to run one in each side with a supercharger though.

Re: Installed a Wideband
I will assume that the wideband sensor is a 6 wire sensor? The wiring to these allows for more information to the PCM/ECM in late model cars. In our applications it allows us to understand what our truck is doing at any particular time. 14.7 AFR is stoichiometric, or the best AFR. I do not know a ton about wideband, but it is becoming more popular on late model stuff, and a great way to make your old Chevy run the way you want it to. OR just another toy that is fun to play with

Re: Installed a Wideband
here is a pic of what i got. I bought mine on ebay too. under $200. not difficult to install.
i went ahead and installed a second bung on the other exhaust bank so i could swap sides and later go to a dual sensor set up. the "boost" gauge is the vacuum gauge. Last edited by dznucks; 02-08-2010 at 07:38 PM. |

Re: Installed a Wideband
hart rod....thats a serious tuner, there. i looked into the dual sensor units but realized that it was over kill on a non forced injection engine. i plan to end up with some type of forced injection, thats why i put bungs on both banks.
a dual plane manifold distributes each barrels air/fuel mixture on both sides of the engine. so if one side of the carb is rich or lean, both banks will see close to the same mixture. |

Re: Installed a Wideband
the fast kit is overkill for your needs, aem, or innovate each make a nice simple to use and install unit, also autometer has a nice wideband, ive installed them all and they all are very simple i would stay away from fjo,

+1 for the Autometer. A wideband is super nice to have with any vehicle that you're tinkering with.

Re: Installed a Wideband
So you're saying I wouldn't need a dual o2 setup for my supercharger setup? What is the part # of the autometer you're talking about?

Re: Installed a Wideband
no i do not know the part number off the top of my head, and no you do not need a dual sensor unit, its overkill, it you want to monitor both banks buy an extra weld on bung and plug and switch the sensor from bank to bank, just my opinion try to save ya some dough, whats your setup

Re: Installed a Wideband
Hart Rod, that motor is so nice, I would run 2. It's not just for tuning, you would know instantly if you went lean for some reason so you could shut it down. About $200 more for piece of mind.

Re: Installed a Wideband
Hart_Rod, i just looked at your build thread.
your motor is basically my end goal for my project. The exhaust system I just installed the dual bungs in (pics above), I designed for a future motor like your setup. yes i would go with a dual O2 bung system. But like i mentioned earlier, if your running a dual plane manifold both banks are seeing "almost" identical a/f mixtures. I also have no experience with superchargers, so i may be incorrect in your case. I am curious to know what would be the most benificial setup for your motor, which route you take, and how happy you are with the tuning capabilities the particular system gives you. keep us posted. |
