Re: Will 2003 chevy silverado tailights fit and work on a 2000 silverado???
I was thinking the 99-03 taillights were the same and the changed to the "new" style in 04. Maybe they changed in 03. If you are wanting to use the taillights that have the protruding circles in them like on the 04-07s, I think the harness is different. If you have a donor truck, get the harness back to where it plugs into the bed harness. If you don't have a donor, you can get the harnesses from the GM parts desk. I may be wrong on this, but this is what I have read about this swap.

okay, that was what i was thinking as well, the harness does look a little different. I have seen a 2000 running the newer style that is why I think it can be done??

The "footprint" (ie, the opening in the pickup box and periphery of the lamp) is the same. I can't comment on any wiring differences.
IIRC the change was made with the restyled front end for the 2003 model year. You didn't ask - but I actually prefer the earlier lamps. To me, they fit the opening and the smooth appearance matches the rest of the bed corner. The later lamps look to me like they have "growths" which should be surgically removed.... (lol). MHO - K

I agree Keith. I like the look of the lenses being all red, and transparent, but never really liked the protruding circles.

They do, however, look better than the aftermarket "Altezza" or whatever lights. I think you can use the earlier harness on the later lights.

Those tail lights will definitely bolt up, however like bwood said a new harness may be needed.
I have a 2000 sierra, and don't care for amber signals. I like the newer Chev tails, but I didn't want them on a GMC. I don't really like the altezzas either, most anyhow. I found these, I haven't seen them anywhere else, and I like them. $38+25 shipping on ebay. |

Re: Will 2003 chevy silverado tailights fit and work on a 2000 silverado???
Wiring is the same. Just gotta remember which bulb goes in which hole. They use the same bulbs, and the same sockets, just different between the red and amber signals. Top (brake/running) goes to top, middle (signal/running) goes to middle, and bottom (reverse) goes to bottom. It's that simple. Be careful removing them, though, as they can be a b***h to get out. Apply a little silicone lubricant to the tabs on the new one to be able to remove it in the future. You remove the two screws on the side, then pull straight out. Also might want to replace the bulbs, and stash the old ones in a drawer for when one goes out. They're also the same as the driving light bulbs (3057).

No splicing, same connectors. Remove housing, remove bulbs, reverse process. That easy.
