New Old Headliner

My 70 Burb was a plain Jane model that never came with a headliner other than some vinyl glued over the front seat area. I bought some headliner panels and the hardware from one of the board members, Sharpie. The headliner panels were from a rear air truck so I didn't get the final panel (most rearward) for a non AC truck like mine. Sharpie was nice enough to include a couple of extra panels, and I had a couple of extra bows, so I had enough to put together a complete headliner. It turned out pretty good. The panels are 40 years old so all needed some repairs and a couple coats of paint before install. Board member PortHeadlight sent me a pattern for the last panel end curves (up against the door header) which was helpful. Hopefully I will include a photo in this post

I need to get my headliner sorted out in my burb...

If anyone reading this has good templates they can share with me, please do PM me with the info. I'd be happy to pay for your trouble and postage...

I'd love to find originals, but all us burb guys know how much of a chance I have in finding those.

I knew I should have made a copy of that pattern I sent to rsavage (at least for the rear piece.) I can measure it up again and send you the front, back, and the middle two which are just simple rectangles. PM me your address and I'll get to it over the weekend.

I'm looking for an extra bow, as i broke one of mine trying to get it off, when I took out mine... I have my complete headliner that is pristine, with rear air, if anybody needs a pattern..? pm me if you do I can copy mine

is any one making anything close to what was in there i figure its a simple peg bord but smaller i have 2 suburbans and i needs 3 of them and one last thing has any one ever put a second dome light in the back it gets kinda dark back there at night

I don't know of anyone making the perforated masonite type material in this thickness - less than a 1/4" but a little more than an 1/8" (maybe 5/32? I'd have to measure). Some others have used a plastic product instead of the original panels- do a search and I think you will find the discussion. I believe that they heated the plastic and made a type of jig to bend the side radius into the panels. I found that the original panel that fit best right after the front panel was slightly narrower across the front that the back of the panel. Obviously, the front panel is wider across the back of it than the front. I thought about another dome light, but decided that I am going to put a light in the left rear side panel that has a built-in switch.

That headliner came out nice. What type of paint did ya use on it to make it stick?

Just some good quality (Pratt & Lambert) exterior flat white. It is a tempered masonite type of material.
