Ported vs. non ported vacuum?
Can someone explain that? I have a stock rochester quadra-jet on my truck and for my HEI dist. i need PORTED vacuum. How the heck can i tell if its ported or non ported?
Whats the definition of manifold vacuum.. Basically just like it sounds im sure.

Start it up and throw a vacuum gauge on it. A manifold vacuum source, (non-ported), will have vacuum at idle. Ported won't have vacuum at idle.

The basic concept is there’s no vacuum at idle to the distributor and can be checked with a vacuum gauge with the engine at idle. The picture below shows the port on a Q-jet
