Hour Meter

Does the hour meter in the cluster only go to 2-3000 hrs before it rolls over back to 0? I hardly ever look at the one in my 07 Classic and flipped past it yesterday after resetting the trip odo and it was on 15.5 hrs. I cant remember if it was close to 2k or 3k hrs before. The digits all work on the odo and trip odo though. I thought it was weird that it would roll over that low with so much space left on the display? I mean if it can show 1000 hrs, then it should be able to show 9999 at least?

Any ideas, the truck has about 54k on it, but they must be mostly highway b/c I bought it with 33k and it showed around 900 hrs when I got it. I think the last time I looked at it, it was over 2k hrs but I never really pay it any attention. Except when I saw it only showed 15 hrs...

Re: Hour Meter

Has the cluster been replaced? Are you looking at the timer or the actual hour meter? Mine has both in my 03, and I am at right around 4800 hours on the hour meter, but I can reset my other timer any time I want.

Re: Hour Meter

The cluster has not been replaced by me or by the dealer according to their records. The truck is a SL, so it only has the odo, 1 trip odo and hr meter. I dont know if it can be reset as I didnt get a owners manual with it either.

Re: Hour Meter

the hour meter i think counts to 9999 hours. seen a lot at the 6000+ mark. ave truck should have 2500 hours for every 60000 miles.

Re: Hour Meter

My 2003 kept resetting the trip meter and randomly changed language. At first, I thought someone was f'ing with me. The dash was replaced under warranty.

Re: Hour Meter

Saw this today:
.IPC Engine Hour Meter Resets - keywords cluster DIC display hour meter intermittent start up #PIT4368A - (05/29/2007)[b]2003-2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic2003-2007 GMC Sierra ClassicSome owners may comment of the ipc engine hour meter resetting. This concern may be very intermittent and normally occurs at key up and/or start up.

GM Engineering is aware of this concern and working on a correction. At this time there has been varying success repairing this concern with the following information:

Check the battery/s with the Midtronic's battery tester and also perform a load test using a Vat40 or similar load tester to make sure the battery/s are in good condition. We have found in some cases a weak battery could cause this concern, this step is very important on vehicles with the 6.6L Diesel Engine where both batteries are used for cranking the engine.
Check the battery cables and make sure all connections are clean and tight.
Check the IPC powers and grounds (G200, G203, G100, G110 and the braided ground strap between the engine and cowl G104 and G107) connections and make sure they are clean and tight. 1.If the IPC has not been replaced, replace the IPC.

Re: Hour Meter

Well that explains mine going from 3045 hours to 3.1 the other day. I did not reset it myself...just happened during a road trip. I better write that number down before I forget it.

Re: Hour Meter

Its probably my battery then. I have noticed lately on the cold mornings it is having trouble starting the truck. Thats probably what did it. I'm not too worried about it.

Re: Hour Meter

My truck has 3,424 hours on it and a little over 122,000 miles, so it's an average of 35.6mph. Neat.

Hopefully it's just your battery.
