Extra pulley on crank and water pump?

Hey guys,

I have a 72 C10 with a 350, my crank pulley has a wobble and I need to replace it. The balancer is newer and spot on. But I have an extra pulley bolted to the front of my crank and water pump?

There is some type of mismatch going on here from the PO, what do you guys think I should do? Take a look at the pic, and let me know.

Thanks!

Re: Extra pulley on crank and water pump?

does it have a long or short water pump? almost looks like it needs a short if not... and maybe they added the power steering later?

Not sure, how do you differentiate between the two?

Re: Extra pulley on crank and water pump?

thats defiantly a long pump. see the gap between the timing cover and the back of the pump. on my motor the alt/water belt runs behind the p/s pulley.

i agree, it looks like it needs a short style pump.

Re: Extra pulley on crank and water pump?

I think maybe I have the long pump, and the alternator (passenger side) bolts to the water pump housing. and the power steering pump must be for a later model to line up with these pulleys.

But I am still confused, please take a look at the pic and let me know what you think I should do. I was planning on replacing the PS pump anyways cause its oldand ugly and is starting to make a little noise. I don't mind putting a short water pump in it, they are cheap.

But how do I get the alternator to line up? New brackets I guess, but did the alt come on the drivers side stock. If someone could give me some guidance on what parts to replace to get me back to stock I would be stoked.

Re: Extra pulley on crank and water pump?

That's a long pump.

To convert to short you will need the pump, alternator brackets, water pump pulley and belts. The alternator is on the driver's side when running short water pump setup.

Re: Extra pulley on crank and water pump?

I think the pump on the serp system runs in the opposite rotation to the older belt drives water pumps

Yeah, it came with new ps pump, water pump, ac pump pulleys etc so I am just going to need a reverse fan.

Thanks man.

Sounds like a good time to install an electric fan.
