I am wondering who's truck this is? I know I stole this picture from here but just can't remember where! I have a few questions for um.

Don't have the slightest clue who's truck it is but you've got me wondering what the questions might be.
I know the front clips on 67 & 68's cost chevy a lot of additional money to manufacture over the later models but boy they sure look good! |

My question was, How did they get rid of the stainless trim around the two openings? I think that looks good.

I have seen that front end before...and many more pics of the truck. I can't remember his screen name though. I believe he is out in California. I could be wrong though.
Anyways, to me it looks like he used the painted metal trim and smoothed it into the grill. Or he just used some filler metal to smooth it out.

the top opening it looks like the trim is still there, just painted/primed the same color as the surrounding metal.

I agree with 68 short step. There are no seams where the fenders meet the grille and where the rollpan meets the grille. If I remember correctly there is normally a large opening there.

If i remember right the fiberglass front ends were one piece "clips" and I don't recall them having a separate opening hood.

That front end is not a fiberglass front end. The grill, fenders and roll pan were all welded together. This guy shaved everything on the truck.

I can see for a fact that the whole front end is sheetmetal, not fiberglass. Look how thin the tab is where the headlight trim screws too and also the park lamps, that is sheetmetal. I know the fenders, grill, and roll pan are welded together, but just the opening confuse me, it could just be some round stock welded in and smoothed over.
As far as the mention of painted metal trim welded in. Did they even offer that? I have never seen metal trim on these only the stainless trim. |

The trim is either steel or aluminum. I wish they had made it out of stainless,it would look and hold up better than alum.

The grille hoops are aluminum. I wish they would have been made from stainless. Stainless holds up much better, but its also much harder to beat on (straighten)

Here is a picture of a '67 grille with the painted steel hoops. It would be easy to weld them on but I think it would be hard to blend them in unless you ground the back lip off of them so they would sit flat against the grill. Otherwise they would stick out too far. LockDoc
