I have a 67 with disc conversion and dropped spindles... Like you, I had to take the old tie-rod to several shops because mine weren't '67s. I think I had to use '71 outer tie-rods (they made 3 different styles during our body style run).

Before you hit the grinder. I don't recall anyone having 10in wide rims up front on lowered trucks. I have 8in with 4 in backspace. Maybe if you have 18 or 20 inch rims you could get a little more backspace but I doubt a whole inch more.
