two questions
What would cause the exhaust donut to burn out over a three month time period? I got two from O’Rielys today. The passenger side had nothing and the driver side looked pretty bad. Could the exhaust shop have put in cheap ones?
The yellow wire on the started solenoid what is it for? Mine was cut and I fixed it today. But it was starting???

Re: two questions
if the exhaust was loose it may cause it to fail and the yellow wire is for a 12 volt jump to the dizy on start up

Re: two questions
if you have HEI dizzy yellow wire not needed
also bad timing or even running lean will cause donut burnout

Re: two questions
Exhaust manifolds but the carb has not been rebuilt so I guess it might be running lean? I timed it the ether day and tightened up the exhaust today.

Re: two questions
The donuts tend to go away if the engine moves a lot due to worn mounts or if the exhaust moves around a bit or doesn't move with the engine due to the way it is mounted.
Also the factory setup had what looked like a sleeve inside the donut and a lot of muffler shop pipes don't have that and that can let the donut burn out sometimes. |
