Starting a new project

I am helping my dad start his new project. We will be building a 1947 GMC that has the same body style as the 1946 Chevy's. We are planning on running a 427 with a 400 turbo tranny. My question is has anyone used one of the s10 frames with a kit, or what other frames do people use. We have the stock frame, but would love to have some power brakes and power steering on this truck.

Re: Starting a new project

I am using a 1993 Chevy S10 ext. cab chassis under my 1946 cab. The frame is to wide in one area and mine had to be narrowed 5 inches. I have pictures of the frame in my build thread in this section. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=383658 I am also using the S10 steering column, brake pedal, brake booster, gas tank, front end and rear end. The other issue you might have is how wide the engine is and narrow the front nose is but I do not know. Sounds like fun when it is drivable. Feel free to ask me any questions and I will try to answer the best that I can. Good luck

'47 was the same as '55 and '07 - the prior year's body style was carried over for half the following year.

Re: Starting a new project

yes kinda lol
its like in 36 they made a high cab (same cab as a 35) for first half year then a low cab (same as a 37) for the last half of the year
but they all (in 36 high and low cabs) were titled as a 36

No, it's titled as a 47, right? It's just that they did the same thing as in 55. There was a first series 55 and a second series 55. The first series looked exactly like the 54. Halfway thru the year they changed the body style. But, they're both 55's. They did the same thing in the 47 year trucks.

Re: Starting a new project

The truck that I have is actually a 1947 on the title but I just tell everybody it is a 1946 for less confusion. My truck was a ton and half so I thought maybe it was different because of that. I would love to find a GMC grill for mine. Todd

Re: Starting a new project

Ahhh, wow I thought only F$rd changed things mid year. lol Well my dad just got the grill back from being chromed, along with the wings. We picked up a set of bucket seats and are currently looking for a fuel cell. We are going to try and make a custom fiberglass console. He is ordering all the new tinited glass and last year he bought a brand new bed. The only bad thing is the bed came with fiberglass fenders. Now the only thing we need is the S-10 frame, running boards and I'm sure buckets of misc parts. If we don't use the s-10 frame is there a kit out there to put disc brakes on the stock frame?
