Will 1965 250 motor bolt directly in 1976 chev truck?

I know it's not the right year for this particular forum but it is between. LOL. By bolting directly I'm mean at least 3 speed transmission and motor mounts will work.

Transmission pattern is same for I6, SBC, BBC, and 6.2/6.5 (too bad fords couldn't interchange like that).
Motor mounts, (what was in the '76 for an engine before?), they might be the same as a SBC, but I'm not sure on that.

A '76 Chevy could've had the 250 from the factory, you could definitely get mounts for it, if they would be different from what's in it now.

Maybe I am wrong, but was the 250 I6 even available in '65? This could be an older inline, and you might have motor mount issues.

73-87 used the same motor mounts for inlines, 350's and 454's. The only one that is the exception is the 292. The stands on the frame have two sets of holes that are labeled "6" and "8"...just move the motor mounts to the correct holes for the engine you are putting in.

You could get a 230 in that time frame. Yes it will bolt in, six is longer so you would need to be sure of your radiator clearance. This in turn may move the trans back. The motor mounts are the same on the frame side 6 to V8 but the motor side are different and I don't think the early ones will work in a later truck. Good news is that there are a ton of L6 trucks so all the parts are out there, and all the required holes are in the frames.

The 250 version came out in 1966 I think, if its a 230 it will mount the same though.

Hey thanks for the help, My son bought the 1965 250 motor that was overhauled to 292 with 10,000 kms since rebuild for $300. I should of stated the 1976 had a 250 that blew up. But these posts seem to say that it should bolt in no problem. Thanks again for the info.

The motor will bolt up to the frame mounts in there current location, and to the trans. The brackets for a 250 motor are taller then a v8 models so you need to score some of those. I have one if you need it but the other is lost in space. I just went threw this putting a 69 250 in my 73 4x4. Those brackets are even taller then the 2 wheel version. I am at a stand still trying to find throttle linkage and kick down for a 250 though as I am running a th350. Also if your running power steering you will need longer hoses. There was no difference in the space between the fan and radiator. I used the clutch fan from my 350 and shroud. also since your 76 was a 292, you will need to move your pass side motor mount back one set of holes so they are both strait across, the 292's are offset.

I was also wondering if the hei distributor on the 1976 250 will fit on the older 250 year 1966? as it just has a coil and distributor..

Yes the HEI will drop right in.
