Re: Drivetrain question

You will have to move the spring perches and shock mounts. Not sure if the brake line is the same thread pitch or not.

Re: Drivetrain question

You will have to do some cutting and welding. I put a 91 rear in mine. You existing rubber line should thread right into the splitter block on the newer rear end. It threaded right in on mine.

Are you assuming that they all came with a posi-trac? if so, that is not correct. Just like the 73-87, the 88-98's could be ordered with a locking dif, but did not come "standard" with one.

Search your local Craigslist and find a 73-87 12 or 10 bolt with a posi. That will bolt right and "and" be the same width as what you have now.

Re: Drivetrain question

Go for a Caddy or Lincoln rearend. Same 5X5 bolt pattern and disc brakes! The wider axel aligns the travel path with the wider front path on our trucks. Same work as adding a 88+ 1/2 ton rear. You have to move the perches and shock mounts.

Re: Drivetrain question

i think i may just get locker and put in the rearend thats in it. i think its a 10 or 12 one of the two for sure. and change the gears out as well the guy i bought the truck from. they put the 400 in it when the 350 blew up. and they pulled a race car with it they also changed the rearend. i thin it is a 12 bolt its been a while since ive looked at it. i do remeber the guy saying it has 4.11

but i know in my 97 z71 i had it was a posi and also in my 01 its posi

ive even thinkin about trying to locate a 5.3 and 4l60e an computer and do a swap. then an ls6 cam and some headwork and a tune

read an article in hotrod they did a tune some headwork and a ls6 cam in a 5.3
and it was about 450hp

im thinking 3.73 gears and maybe a detroit or something i dunno
