GM 350/330 Crate
Richard,
Just put that engine (just long block - p/n12486041) in my '68 with HEI, 600 Holley, & 700r4. Still in the break in period, but am very happy with it. Still have to get better gears in my rear end before I'm winning any sprints!! Shop around for a good price. Don't go to your local dealer. I got mine from a dealer in NC for less than $2300 including freight delivered my house in TX! http://www.highperformanceparts.net/.../12486041.html 68Mike

If your are planning on getting the 330/350 deluxe then I would step up to the ZZ4 for just a couple hundred more, you get a lot more power. If your not talking about the deluxe version then $3500 is way to high and is still slightly high for the deluxe. Got to Pace Performance Parts or Scoggin Dickey for good prices.

Go the ZZ4 if you can afford it...my opinion is that torque is king....we buy HP but drive torque....so using the theory adamls described, I reviewed my options and for a "little more" and a "little more"....I wound up with a 502....but the ZZ4 is the way to go.....

Dollar for dollar the 350/330 horse gm crate motor cant be beat. As soon as I get the money I will be ordering this motor. You can find them for cheaper if you look around. The best prices ive seen are at www.goatuocenter.com

I was talking with a Chevy service manager the other day, and he said that some of the dealerships buy several of the crate motors just to stock them. They get a sizeable discount for doing so, and can pass that along to the customer. As a couple of others have said, look around. I heard that you could buy the 502/502 for around $6500. (Just thought that I would throw that in.)

Yeah, that was the motor that we looked up. 502/502 deluxe. Dealer cost on it is around $7600 if I remember, but they buy enough for the discount, and pass it on. Maybe if I get rich I can buy one, tub a long wheel base 72, and play with it on the street and strip.
