WTB PTO adapter for NP205

I am looking for a PTO adapter that bolts to the drivers side of the NP205 transfer case, which allows you to run a PTO winch off of the transfer case.

Thanks

Re: WTB PTO adapter for NP205

You will have a hard time finding a PTO from a NP205. Most tow trucks and dump trucks used a PTO unit off of the transmission. Also if you use a single speed,non-reversible type and try to use the main transmission for speed and direction control the output shaft rotation in a forward gear must match the worm and gear (left or right) in the winch housing. If it is wrong your winch will wind in with the transmission in reverse.Your best bet is to get a reversible PTO such as a Chelsea model 340 or 352 and have the output shaft installed in the direction you want (forward or backwards). If you want a front mounted winch and you have a SM465 the model 340 is the best choice to install on the SM465. It's uotput speed is about 35% od engine speed in both forward and reverse. This will match the 40:1 worm ratio of most winches and line in and line out speeds will be the same.

Try Jackson Powertrain http://www.jacksonpowertrain.com/
We used them several years ago for a pto winch hookup & they are very helpful.

Re: WTB PTO adapter for NP205

I was hoping to find one to hook directly to my transfer case. I`ve never seen one, but I think they exist, right?

Re: WTB PTO adapter for NP205

Not saying they're not out there, but every PTO I've ever seen on a truck has been operated off the transmission, not the transfer case. This is including 2 of our 1 ton dumps off of a SM465, one on our 79 Dodge (not sure of the transmission), and even on the newer trucks, the PTO would come off the Allison transmission in my 03 Duramax if I was to install one.

Edit: after a quick google search, it appears Muncie manufactured the PTO for the 205 transfer case for the military trucks in the 70/80s. Learn something new every day.

They do exist, I've had two of them over the years. They are hard to find these days though.

Re: WTB PTO adapter for NP205

Are you wanting just the PTO drive? I have a complete drive, driveshaft and 12k winch so I was kind of thinking I would keep them together. I took it off of an '85 k30 I parted. The drive was nice and quiet. PM me, Dave

Re: WTB PTO adapter for NP205

Happen to see this NP205 with PTO on ebay, its a newer 1983 NP205 with slip yoke, there near same otherwise. This model PTO would work. Showing they exist thats all, this one is not mine.

You might want to try board member bikes & bowties up in WA. I sold him a pto cover because I think he might have taken the pto out and just needed the cover. Maybe a long shot, but worth a try.
