Dome Light Wiring

I've got a 76 K10 stepside, and my problem at hand is that the dome light does not work. I traced down the wires and the white ground wires are all connected and good, but the orange wire is disconnected and just laying on the floor next to the fuse box. At the end of the orange wire it splices off into a 2nd wire that is only about 3 inches long, and both of them have plastic connectors on them. Does anyone know where these wires are supposed to be connected to?

And by the way, the truck does have the underdash courtesy light, and it works. Any ideas or input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Dome Light Wiring

the orange wire should tie into the orange wiring going to your courtsey light.. the white wires go the switches that are grounded on other side of the contacts ..id look closer around fuse box area you should find the connections somewhere ...hope this helps some ...

Re: Dome Light Wiring

Ok...the orange wire is what gets a constant 12 volt...you should have a total of three orange wires.....one running to rear dome.....one running to headlght switch and one heading to the floorboard courtesy lamp...the white wires run from the door switches and feed into the courtesy lamp, dome lamp and head light switch as well.....this way it allows two circuits to work...Doors open and Dashlight Dimmer turned all the way left.

Alright, I will trace down the wires from the underdash light and see where they go. Thanks for the help!

Re: Dome Light Wiring

is there a orange wire under you driver side carpet that runs behind the seat and up the back pillar? If so connect it to the orange wire that is coming off the fuse box and it should work. You said the floor light works, what wire is running to it , it should be orange.

Re: Dome Light Wiring

well the orange wire from the underdash light runs to the headlight switch, so i connected the orange wire from the dome light to that same wire at the headlight switch and problem solved. It works great, so thanks for all the help guys. I appreciate it.

Re: Dome Light Wiring

Explains a lot to me now that orange wire is brought up. Found the floor courtesy light under the ashtray and what was left of the orange wire from a previous owner's mouse problem.

That courtesy light wiring was literally gone but for a few strands of orange. I did tape it off to isolate it for now. Didn't relate the two but it makes sense. Explains why the dome light needs attention next!
