3 on the tree help
I have a 230 with a 3 speed tranny. It's been just fine but now when I start it skips a little then drives o.k. I checked out the underside and there is fluid everywhere under the tranny. Obviously this ain't good. Any suggestions on tranny work or replacement would be greatly appreciated. By the way it shifts just fine, just skips a little when you start out either in forward or reverse, then smooths out.

Re: 3 on the tree help
Could be a broken line to a trans cooler. I am assuming this is a 3 speed automatic, not a standard. Don't keep running it with low fluid. Get it up on a lift and find out where the leak is coming from.

Re: 3 on the tree help
If it's a standard transmission it could be fluid on the clutch plate, causing it to slip.

Re: 3 on the tree help
Exactly what I was thinking. Stanards have front and rear seals like an auto. Typically the front seal is behind the hub the throw out bearing rides on. I would look into them unless your just looking for an excuse to change to a 4spd or auto.. I just dumped my factory 283 & 3 on the tree for a Highly modified LT1 and turbo 400... is turning out ot be a very interesting swap.

Re: 3 on the tree help
years ago I had that problem with my 66. In that case it was a worn shift fork in the tranny. If that's the case its time for a new one.
