tank strap material?
okay I have a brand new gas tank, pump and filter and soon to have the hoses but where should i get the tank strap insulator material from? is there something i can just pick up from a local auto parts and cut into the strips? i checked at oreilly and they said they didnt have them. i would rather not order some 20 dollar plus shipping stuff from a website. after all, it was just some type of paper pulp stuff and shouldnt be that expensive!

Ok when I restored my tanks, I looked long and hard at the anti squeak material. What it is is thick tar paper. So I went to the hardware store and got a small roll of tar paper 3'x10' (8 dollars). and cut 3'' wide and double the length around the tank so it would be as thick as the factory material. it works GREAT!

Yep, I always use tar paper, heavy roof felt. Works well.

I used an old fender cover because it won't hold water when it gets older like tar paper will. You could use tire tube also. I would tar the tank and the straps first in any event. You didn't say if you got new straps\hangers. They are still available from GM, or were 2 years ago. Just my 2 cents for thought. Jim
